In 1998, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper worldwide.

Within just a few years, their business model disappeared and they got bankrupt.

What happened to Kodak will happen in a lot of industries in the next 10 year - and most people don't see it coming.
Did you think in 1998 that 3 years later you would never take pictures on paper film again?

Yet digital cameras were invented in 1975.
The first ones only had 10,000 pixels, but followed Moore's law.

So as with all exponential technologies, it was a disappointment for a long time, before it became way superiour and got mainstream in only a few short years.

It will now happen with Artificial Intelligence, health, autonomous and electric cars, education, 3D printing, agriculture and jobs.

Welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Welcome to the Exponential Age.

Software will disrupt most traditional industries in the next 5-10 years.
Uber is just a software tool, they don't own any cars, and are now the biggest taxi company in the world.
Airbnb is now the biggest hotel company in the world, although they don't own any properties.

Artificial Intelligence: Computers become exponentially better in understanding the world.
This year, a computer beat the best Go player in the world, 10 years earlier than expected.
In the US, young lawyers already don't get jobs.
Because of IBM Watson, you can get legal advice (so far for more or less basic stuff) within seconds, with 90% accuracy compared with 70% accuracy when done by humans.
So if you study law, stop immediately.
There will be 90% less laywyers in the future, only specialists will remain.

Watson already helps nurses diagnosing cancer, 4 time more accurate than human nurses.
Facebook now has a pattern recognition software that can recognize faces better than humans.
In 2030, computers will become more intelligent than humans.

Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first self driving cars will appear for the public.
Around 2020, the complete industry will start to be disrupted.
You don't want to own a car anymore.
You will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination.
You will not need to park it, you only pay for the driven distance and can be productive while driving.
Our kids will never get a driver's licence and will never own a car.
It will change the cities, because we will need 90-95% less cars for that.
We can transform former parking space into parks. 1.2 million people die each year in car accidents worldwide.
We now have one accident every 100,000 km, with autonomous driving that will drop to one accident in 10 million km.
That will save a million lifes each year.

Most car companies might become bankrupt.
Traditional car companies try the evolutionary approach and just build a better car, while tech companies (Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a computer on wheels.
I spoke to a lot of engineers from Volkswagen and Audi; they are completely terrified of Tesla.

Insurance companies will have massive trouble because without accidents, the insurance will become 100x cheaper.
Their car insurance business model will disappear.

Real estate will change.
Because if you can work while you commute, people will move further away to live in a more beautiful neighborhood.

Electric cars will become mainstream until 2020.
Cities will be less noisy because all cars will run on electric.

Electricity will become incredibly cheap and clean: Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30 years, but you can only now see the impact.
Last year, more solar energy was installed worldwide than fossil.
The price for solar will drop so much that all coal companies will be out of business by 2025.

With cheap electricity comes cheap and abundant water.
Desalination now only needs 2kWh per cubic meter.
We don't have scarce water in most places, we only have scarce drinking water.
Imagine what will be possible if anyone can have as much clean water as he wants, for nearly no cost.

Health: The Tricorder X price will be announced this year.
There will be companies who will build a medical device (called the "Tricorder" from Star Trek) that works with you phone, which takes your retina scan, you blood sample and you breath into it.
It then analyses 54 biomarkers that will identify nearly any disease.
It will be cheap, so in a few years everyone on this planet will have access to world class medicine, nearly for free.

3D printing: The price of the cheapest 3D printer came down from 18,000$ to 400$ within 10 years.
In the same time, it became 100 times faster.
All major shoe companies started 3D printing shoes.
Spare airplane parts are already 3D printed in remote airports.
The space station now has a printer that eliminates the need for the large amout of spare parts they used to have in the past.
At the end of this year, new smartphones will have 3D scanning possibilities.
You can then 3D scan your feet and print your perfect shoe at home.
In China, they already 3D printed a complete 6-storey office building.
By 2027, 10% of everything that's being produced will be 3D printed.

Business opportunities: If you think of a niche you want to go in, ask yourself: "in the future, do you think we will have that?" and if the answer is yes, how can you make that happen sooner?
If it doesn't work with your phone, forget the idea.
And any idea designed for success in the 20th century is doomed in to failure in the 21st century.

Work: 70-80% of jobs will disappear in the next 20 years.
QThere will be a lot of new jobs, but it is not clear if there will be enough new jobs in such a small time.

Agriculture: There will be a 100$ agricultural robot in the future.
Farmers in 3rd world countried can then become managers of their field instead of working all days on their fields.
Aeroponics will need much less water.

The first petri dish produced veal is now available and will be cheaper than cow produced veal in 2018.

Right now, 30% of all agricultural surfaces is used for cows.

Imagine if we don't need that space anymore.

There are several startups who will bring insect protein to the market shortly.

It contains more protein than meat.

It will be labeled as "alternative protein source" (because most people still reject the idea of eating insects).

There is an app called "moodies" which can already tell in which mood you are.

Until 2020 there will be apps that can tell by your facial expressions if you are lying.

Imagine a political debate where it's being displayed when they are telling the truth and when not.

Bitcoin will become mainstream this year and might even become the default reserve currency.

Longevity: Right now, the average life span increases by 3 months per year.

Four years ago, the life span used to be 79 years, now it's 80 years.

The increase itself is increasing and by 2036, there will be more that one year increase per year.

So we all might live for a long long time, probably way more than 100.

Education: The cheapest smartphones are already at 10$ in Africa and Asia.

Until 2020, 70% of all humans will own a smartphone.

That means, everyone has the same access to world class education.

So the world is moving, are you?

This is something we should all read at least once a week!!!!! Make sure you read to the end!!!!!!

Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Plain b Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote few lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.

4. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.

5. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

6. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

7. Make peace with your past so it won't mess up the present.

8. Don't compare your life to others.  You have no idea what their journey is all about.

9. Take a deep breath every now and then. It calms the mind.

10. Get rid of anything that isn't useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.

11. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

12. It's never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.

13. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

14. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy clothes. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

15. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

17. Always choose life.

18. Forgive others and yourself.

19. What other people think of you is none of your business.

20. Time heals almost everything. Give time a little time.

21. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

22. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

23. Believe in miracles.

24. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

25. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

26. Growing old beats the alternative of dying young.

27. Your children get only one childhood.

28. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

29. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

30. Envy is waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you need.

31. The best is yet to come...

32. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

33. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Its estimated that 93% won't share this. If you are one of the 7% who will, share this with the title '7%'.

I'm in the 7%. Friends are the family and family is best friends that you choose.

Its worth reading again & again, as & when you can.

INTEGRITY ALWAYS PAYS

At the point of death a man, Tom Smith, called his children and after praying for them, he advised them to follow his footsteps so that they can have peace of mind in all that they do.

The youngest child, Immaculate, a female, looked at others and yelled, "Daddy, its unfortunate you are dying without a penny in your bank account, personally, I can't emulate you. Other father's that you tag as being corrupt, thieves of public funds left houses and properties for their children; even this house we live in is a rented apartment, sorry, i can't emulate you, just go, let's chart our own course, let's paddle our own canoe."

Few moments later, their father gave up the spirit.

Three years later, Immaculate went for an interview in a Multinational Company. The interview panel had already penciled down a candidate for the highly coveted post but wanted to complete the formality of interviewing all applicants on the list.

As soon as Immaculate sat before the interview panel, the Chairman of the Committee asked, "Which Smith is your's" and  Immaculate replied, "I am Immaculate Smith. My Dad Tom Smith  is now late, he died as a poor man..."

But the Chairman cuts in, "Oh my God, you are Tom Smith's daughter?" He turned to other members and said, "This Smith man was the one that signed my membership form into the Institute of Chartered Administrators and his recommendation earned me where I am today. He did all these free. I didn't even know his address, he never knew me from Adam. He just did it for me."

He turned to Immaculate, "I have no question for you, consider yourself as having gotten this job, resume tomorrow, your letter will be waiting for you".

Immaculate Smith became the Corporate Affairs Manager of the Company with two cars, one official and one for private use, attached to the office, with a duplex and two drivers and a salary of £100,000 per month excluding allowances and other costs when she travelled outside England.

After two years of working in the Company, the Group Managing Director of the Company came from America to announce his intention to resign and needed a replacement. A personality with high integrity was sought after, again the Company's Consultant nominated Immaculate Smith.

In an interview, she was asked the secret of her success and the sudden sky rocketing profile and in tears, she replied, " My Daddy paved these ways for me. It was after he died that I knew that he was financially poor but stinkingly rich in integrity, discipline and honesty.

She was asked again, why she is weeping since she is no longer a kid as to miss her dad still after a long time. She replied, "At the point of death, I insulted my dad for being an honest man of integrity. I hope he will forgive me in his grave now. I didn't work for all these, he did it for me to just walk in".

So finally she was asked, "Will you follow your father's foot steps as he requested?" And her simple answer was, "l now adore the man, I have a big picture of him in my living room and at the entrance of my house.

Are you like Tom Smith?
It pays to build a name, the reward doesn't come quickly but it will come however long it may take and it lasts longer. Integrity, discipline and self control  makes man wealthy, not the fat bank account. Leave a good heritage for your children.

Are you building a good name for your children & not a fat bank account?

*As an agent of CHANGE, please share this true life story with your loved ones!*

To have power means to enjoy the variety of life.

Expression: When there is the inner strength there is enthusiasm to give the best and also to learn and improve with every obstacle. To work with inner power is to be like a skilled player whose focus is on enjoying the match too rather than just on winning.

Experience: When I have learned the art of focusing on my strengths, I am able to enjoy the variety scenes that life brings for me. I would enjoy dealing with all these different scenes in a natural and easy way, and also be naturally victorious. And so I have the benefit of double enjoyment.

Dear beautiful ladies, sharing few learnings which came with age -

1.Take care of your health. Spend time n money on maintaining yourself.

2.Learn to be independent. Its perfectly ok to not earn, but its important to be independent.

3.Learn to ride that bike or drive that car. You don't always need an escort!

4.Learn about investments and taxes. Its not necessary to have someone else manage your savings n earnings all your life.

5.Plan and save for your own gifts n desires. You don't always need a boyfriend or husband or your dad to buy you something you love. Gift yourself!

6.When you expect equal pay at work, take equal responsibilities. Its not ok to play the "woman" card or "mother" card and shun tough tasks, working weekends or late nights every time.

7.Take equal responsibility of your parents. Its not acceptable to expect everything from your brother every time.

8.Let the father take care of the unwell child once in a while. Its ok. Your career is equally important and the father is equally responsible.

9.Let other family members take care of your kitchen sometimes. Its ok if the kitchen platform is exceptionally unclean or sink is full of dirty vessels. Relax n take that break!

10.Help the other woman, even if you dont like her ;) You never know what her battles are. Empower the needy ones, like your maids. Teach her basics of hygiene, education and finances.

11.Create a support system. Its ok to get on well with inlaws! Not every family needs to have a saas-bahu drama.

12.Have some friends (men and women) beyond your husband's or boyfriend's group. Its ok ! Spend some time away from family with your friends.

13.Its ok to not cry. Not all women need to be senti all the time ;)

14. Be vigilant, be prepared to handle tough situations. When things go wrong, try to be balanced and find way out of your problems. You don't need to play the victim.

15. Find time to read and keep yourself updated.

16.Raise independent, caring and health conscious kids. Make all family members equally accountable and responsible.

17. Create different girlie groups. Share your problems and seek opinions. Finally take your own decision and be confident about it.

18. Spend some time in doing what you like, even if its just sitting idle. Dont feel guilty about it, just because others feel its worthless.

19. Believe in yourself...... . If you don't, no one else will
😊😊😊

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place... and I don´t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it.

You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But ain't about how hard you hit... It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward... how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That´s how winning is done.

Now, if you know what you worth, go out and get what you worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying: You ain´t what you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain´t you! You´re better than that

So the question comes to mind, how to be so HAPPY? How to be so SUCCESSFUL in life?

Answer is: Naked I came from my mother's womb and naked I will depart. Only what I do echoes in eternity.

Right, one fine day you will die leaving behind - all the money you earned, all the people you loved, all the people you hurt. You came alone, you will go alone. After that day few  people will remember you, some will cherish your memories while some will still be angry with you. How would you like people to react after your death?

I assume, most of you would like people to remember you by the good things you did to them. Each time they will remember you, a bright smile would come right under their nose and they would say - 'He/She was so amazing/funny/kind'.

So in short, life is a journey. You can either sit back, relax and enjoy the ride or keeping on crying, blaming, cursing and be miserable. Life is always about choices you make.

Success = Happiness = Health + Wealth + Love

Understand that, most certainly you will not get all of the 3 components. Some of us are too wealthy and loved by all but they suffer by cancer. Some of us found their love and are healthy but they do not have money. While some of us are healthy and wealthy but still finding love.

Interestingly, all these 3 components will always be felt less and we will keep expecting more and more. Unless, you are sitting idle.

Yes, the moment you sit idle, the moment you do not have anything to do, you tend to think. Think about what you do not have. Scientifically, it is proved that it is very easy to be sad than to be happy. So the hobbies, passion, ambitions, aims play a very significant part in your lives.

People who do not have goals in life tend to think - think how miserable their lives are. Although in reality their lives are much more better than others. They are fortunate to take little things in life for granted e.g. safe drinking water, two meals a day etc.

While other people who have aims, goals in life tend to be achievers. And the whole world loves achievers. Achievers tend to be successful because they have a reason to get up in the morning, pursue their dreams and they become happy by doing what they are doing because that is what they want.

So, get up and find out what you want - you always wanted to get physically fit? you always wanted to be rich? you always wanted to be loved by your friends and family? Work on what you want. Work on your goals.

You have to stretch yourself to achieve something and that is the success mantra. Everyday you have to be a better person than you were yesterday.

Do not compete with others, compete with yourself.

Once there was a lady named Sheela who had a python as Pet. Sheela was very close to her python. She used to feed him, play with him, cuddle him daily.

After a few weeks the python stopped eating. After many unsuccessful attempts to feed the python, she went to veternary doctor.

The doctor examined the python.

Doc: :"Do you sleep with your python?". Sheela nodded.

Sheela: "Yes, he cuddles me completely around my body."

The doctor took a moment and said "Madam, your python is not sick. He is planning to eat you. Everytime the python cuddles you, it measures your weight and size. And plans how to kill you and digest you."

The doctor continued, "Since we humans are very large to swallow and digest, your python has not been eating anything in order to digest you."

To this Sheela got upset and refused to listen further to doctor and went to her home.

That night the python attacked her and swallowed her.

Morale: Not everybody who is close to you, actually loves you. You can learn great things from your mistakes when you aren’t busy denying them.

There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.

One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him – Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm. His boss replied "OK, You’re permitted to leave the office early today". The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM. Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children.

He looked for his boss, He was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home.

Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there. His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines.

The situation was explosive, any talk would boomerang on him. His wife asked him "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry".

The man replied "If you would like to have coffee, I too will have but what about Children ??" .Wife replied "You don’t know?? , Your manager came here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition".

What had really happened was …. The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM. He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition. So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition The boss does not have to do it every time. But once it is done, loyalty is established.

That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous.

By the way, can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was ?

He was none other than Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam .

Morale: Be kind to others. A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles

If life hits you hard, hit back harder

A 10-year-old boy named Kakashi decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident.

Kakashi began lessons with an old Japanese judo master - Hashirama. Kakashi was doing well, so he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move. “Hashirama-san,”(Teacher in Japanese) the boy finally said, “Shouldn’t I be learning more moves?” “This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the Hashirama replied.

Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, Kakashi kept training. Several months later, Hashirama took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, Kakashi easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, Kakashi was now in the finals.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, Kakashi appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that Kakashi might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when Hashirama intervened. “No,” Hashirama insisted, “Let him continue.” Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, Kakashi used his move to pin him. He had won the match and the tournament.

He was the champion. On the way home, Kakashi and Hashirama reviewed every move in each and every match. Then Kakashi summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind.

“Hashirama-san, how did I win the tournament with only one move?”

“You won for two reasons,” Hashirama answered. “First, you’ve almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm.”

Kakashi’s biggest weakness had become his biggest strength.

Moral: If life hits you hard, hit back harder! Sometimes we don't realize our own strengths until we come face to face with our greatest weakness

Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself

I have a friend named Andrew Levis who owns a horse ranch in Los Angeles. He has let me use his house to put on fund-raising events to raise money for youth at risk programs.

The last time I was there he introduced me by saying, “I want to tell you why I let Jack use my horse. It all goes back to a story about a young man who was the son of an itinerant horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses. As a result, the boy’s high school career was continually interrupted. When he was a senior, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

“That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4,000-square-foot house that would sit on a 200-acre dream ranch.

“He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red F with a note that read, `See me after class.’

“The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked, `Why did I receive an F?’

“The teacher said, `This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you’ll have to pay large stud fees. There’s no way you could ever do it.’ Then the teacher added, `If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.’

“The boy went home and thought about it long and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, `Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.’ “Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all.

He stated, “You can keep the F and I’ll keep my dream.”

Andrew then turned to the assembled group and said, “I tell you this story because you are sitting in my 4,000-square-foot house in the middle of my 200-acre horse ranch. I still have that school paper framed over the fireplace.” He added, “The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week.”

When the teacher was leaving, he said, “Look, Andrew, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams. Fortunately you had enough gumption not to give up on yours.”

Moral: Work hard, dream big! Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company. He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision. The director discovered from the CV that the youth’s academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, 'Did you obtain any scholarships in school?', the youth answered 'none'

The director asked, 'Was it your father who paid for your school fees?'. The youth answered, 'My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees'.

The director asked, 'Where did your mother work?' The youth answered, 'My mother worked as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect'.

The director asked, 'Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?' The youth answered, 'Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me'.

The director said, 'I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning'.

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid. The youth cleaned his mother’s hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother’s hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future. After finishing the cleaning of his mother’s hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother. That night, mother and son talked for a very long time. Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes, asked: 'Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?' The youth answered, 'I cleaned my mother’s hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes'.

The Director asked, 'please tell me your feelings'. The youth said, 'Number 1, I know now what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not the successful me today. Number 2, By working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done. Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship'.

The director said, 'This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired'.

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company’s performance improved tremendously.

Moral: If one doesn’t understand and experience the difficulty it takes to earn the comfort provided by their loved ones, than they will never value it. The most important thing is to experience the difficulty and learn to value hard work behind all the given comfort.
